Verification
Verification was developed to prevent uninvited participants (also known as "Zoom-bombers") from disturbing your session.
Learners will need to be verified their first time coming into a Class session if they join:
- Using a guest link
- With Meeting ID and passcode
- Via the Class Schedule
They will not need to be verified the first time they join if they join:
- Selecting Join your Class from a Class Invite email
- Selecting Join Class room from within a Learning Management System (e.g. Blackboard, Canvas, Docebo, D2L, Moodle)
1. Verify a Learner
Select the More, Elipsis, or Unverified button to bring up this menu:
Select New Student then <learner name>. The learner is now verified.
2. Verify an Existing Student
Learners only need to be verified once, if they join using the same method each time (via meeting link, via meeting ID and passcode, etc.). If a learner joins a session using a different method, verify that learner as an Existing student. Otherwise, you may create duplicate roster entries.
3. Verify All
You can find the Verify All button at the top of the Participants panel. Verify all allows Instructors and Assistants to verify all users in a class at once. When selected, all unverified users will be verified and added to the Class Roster with the name they entered; any fields not manually entered will be empty in the roll. These can be updated in the Class Roster at any time.
4. Removing a Learner
To remove someone from your classroom, select either the More or Elipsis button to bring up. this menu: Select the Remove option. That learner will be removed form your classroom.
Note: Depending on your admin or individual Zoom settings, a learner may not be able to re-join your session after you remove them. More information can be found here.
5. What an Unverified Learner can see and do
Unverified Learners Can:
- Only see Instructors and Assistants
- Send chats to Instructors and Assistants
- Raise hand and send reactions
- Come off mute
- Send messages to the Everyone chat. They are visible to Instructors and Assistants but hidden from other learners.
Unverified Learners Cannot:
- See other learners
- Be seen by other learners
- Share a screen
- Send chats to other learners
- See chats from other learners
- See content shared with the class
